So, how can you spot an eBayJerk?

When reading the feedback items that a buyer or a seller has received, there are a number of clear indications that the person you are reviewing is an eBayJerk. Sometimes it's not so obvious while other times it is perfectly clear. Let's look at some indications:

  • Lack of Facts: The lack of any details in a negative feedback should make you wonder if you are reading the comments of an eBayJerk. Think about it: If this person really wanted to use the feedback system the way it was meant, they would *say* what the problem was. Simply stating that they won't do business with this person again doesn't cut it, and shows the weak case of the person leaving the feedback. - The opposite of this is the person who says what was wrong, and why, in a way which doesn't use subjective judgment.

  • Name Calling: This is a really good sign that the person leaving the feedback is an eBayJerk. Name calling can be very subtle, or very aggressive. But in both cases, the calling of a name gives the reader no facts about the issue - it simply makes obvious that the name caller doesn't really have anything substantive to be complaining about. - The opposite of this is the user who makes a statement as to what didn't make them happy, without calling anyone a name.

  • Retaliatory Negative Feedback: This is the worst. - If you are fair, and use the system as designed, it can be a very good tool for others to use to be able to make decisions as to who they want to buy from or sell to. However, some users think that the feedback system is a tool to get revenge on anyone who isn't happy with them. This is wrong thinking, and an abuse of the eBay Feedback System. If a person uses RNF, you can be SURE that they're an eBayJerk.
